As regards the preparation of the new release branch (although this is
definitely something worth discussing in a separate thread), we could also
consider adopting a different strategy from the one we have used so far.
Instead of maintaining long-term release branches (such as 18.12 and
24.09), we could start releasing directly from trunk. In other words, when
we want to prepare a release, we create a new branch from trunk, stabilize
it for a short period (e.g., a few weeks), and then release from it.

This approach may simplify upgrades from one release to the next for our
users (for example, moving from the last release of 18.12 to the first
release of 24.09 is somewhat tricky). It may also be more affordable for
our community in terms of maintaining the codebase. While it could
introduce some regressions (since releases would be closer to trunk),
considering that OFBiz is now a mature codebase, it may represent a good
compromise.

Hi Jacopo,

This is indeed another interesting alternative as OFBiz is now mature. To be
discussed of course.
