Rather than subtasks I would suggest to:
1) create a new Jira version for the roadmap: "Slim Down" (or similar)
2) create task and then assign as "fix version" to the roadmap
In this way we will be very flexible; Jira also provides some nice ootb reports to show progress on versions and this will be very
useful.
