URLs can be an arbitrary length. The common advice is to limit their length to 2000 characters to avoid problems with some browsers.

I propose that we change the "url" field type to allow 2000 characters:

<field-type-def type="url" sql-type="VARCHAR(2000)" java-type="String"/>

This should not be an SQL CLOB because some databases will not allow comparisons or indexing on CLOB fields.

What do you think?
