That looks better, but it seems a bit hackish. I understand it is the easiest
way to work around the thread safety issue, and you are fighting against a poor
design (the tree widget design started off entirely thread-unsafe, and we've
had to fix it many times).
If no one beats me to it, I will commit it when I have more time.
