BTW, some time ago, Paul Piper suggested me to read http://www.amazon.com/The-Mother-Tongue-English-That/dp/0380715430 and I found it quite
interesting, though sometimes a little verbose.
I notably learnt/learned there that there is not something like the "Académie
Française" for the English tongue.
I liked the explanation (roughly the English world is more liberal). Still some controversies about the French language are sometimes deliciously out
of fashion.
Fun isn't ?
