I agree with Roderick, I've been evaluating Gantt Project for our
organisation. I'm not a project manager but have been looking at
various tools (Open Workbench, Planner/Mr Project etc.) for a few months
and have found Gantt Project to be the most suitable and having the best
compatibility with MS Project (because of mpxj). It is the only open
source tool I've found that can export to MS Project. I've tested the
compatibility with various MS Project versions:

.mpp's imported from MS Project 98, 2000 and 2003 - no problems opening
in Gantt Project
.xml imported from MS Project 2003 - can't open (but neither can Project
98 / 2000)
.mpx's exported from Gantt project - no problems opening in Project 2000
and 2003
.xml exported from Gantt project - opens in Project 2003 but % complete
inconsistent
.mpx's cannot be opened in Gantt Projecteven those that are exported
from Gantt Project

I've included a few of the features I think are useful below. In
summary it has a similar interface to Planner/Mr Project and is
extremely simple to use (especially compared to Open Workbench or MS
Project 2003). I like the control you have over what task info is
displayed both on the table of tasks and the Gantt Chart. My only
issues are that Gantt Project doesn't have costing (which could be
easily fixed) and it can be a bit slow when working with large projects
(probably due to Java, which I believe is a big part of other OpenOffice
projects anyway). I agree that Gantt Project or at least MPXJ would be
a great basis for an OpenOffice project management tool (which I can't
wait for if it is anything like Writer and Calc).
