I want to introduce a new revolution idea on Resources ManagementI want to introduce a new revolution idea on Resources Management, because:
Problem of Existing Project Software on Resource
Management:
1. "Resource Collection" is one important kind of
Task, but this process is always missed.
2. Manage Tasks & Resources quite separately.
Gantt Chart conceptually & mainly manage momentary
causal relationship of Task,
but not momentary & physical causal relationship of
Resources intuitively.
As a result, its momentary relationship can only be
shown in a seperated report system, while its physical
relationship cannot be shown.
Suggested Solution:
1. Define & Distinguish 2 kind of resources: Raw
Resources & Secondary Resources.
Raw Resource = On-Hand Resource before project
start
Secondary Resource = Resources built on / exchanged
from / earned by another resource (whatever raw or
seconday)
2. Manage Resources AS we manage Tasks.
Therefore, in Task Panel, both original fields,
Precedent task and Resource, are combined into one
"Input" field.
While the original Task field is also changed to
Output field that accept entering whatever Tasks or
Resources.
3. So, use Gantt Chart to handle Resources as well.
Its existing feature can naturally help us to:
a) Unify different operations for managing task &
resource, making entire operation simple.
b) Control Resources' time property more Prominently.
c) Build Resource Leveling, since Resouces leveling =
Task Leveling (i.e.Sub-task) naturally.
e.g. I have made preparation & collect different
resources for a few months, and then use them in one
day event.
On-Hand Demonstration:
I have demonstrated above model in attached file.
Since I find that this model is very similar to those
Financial software (e.g.Ms Money, Quicken),
I will use Financial software as an analogy, to make
you easier in understanding.
i.e. Use Finanicail Model to replace existing Project
Model.
Rmk: In fact, Financial software is similar to Project
software BASICALLY.
The former manage registry/transaction & one kind of
resource(i.e.Money),
while the latter manage task & multiple kinds of
resource (inc. Work hour, Material =>Money).
Ms Money give one concise feeling, but Ms Project
often give one uncontrollable and constrained feeling.
