It's a good idea not to waste resources on unsued threads.
Could you look into the 
[MiniHS2|https://github.com/apache/oozie/blob/master/core/src/test/java/org/apache/oozie/test/hive/MiniHS2.java]
 and other minicluster classes for other properties to set?
