Robert Kanter commented on OOZIE-2969:
--------------------------------------
Even though we only dropped Java 6 support in 2016, we really should have done
it sooner. Java 6 was end of life in 2013.
I think we should be okay upping to Java 8 as the minimum. As [~Jan Hentschel]
mentioned
[here|https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/OOZIE-2946?focusedCommentId=16070213&page=com.atlassian.jira.plugin.system.issuetabpanels:comment-tabpanel#comment-16070213],
Java 7 was end of life in April 2015 and it's now June 2017.
This will make things simpler: regardless of which Hadoop (2.6+ or 3.x) you
use, you would compile and run Oozie with Java 8.
> Drop support for Java 1.7

> Fix For: trunk, 5.0.0

> I see the last jira to drop 1.6 support only resolved end of 2016 with
> release of 4.3 but wondering if 5.0 is a good time to drop 1.7 support? 5.0
> will support Hadoop 3 and minimum required version to support it is 1.8.
> Happy to pick it up if there's interest.
