Baby-steps... baby-steps... I prefer to make small incremental changes... that way it's easier to back out... I also prefer to work on one target at a time... and I'd like to get the 3.1.x branch into a state where it's trivial to roll out a bug-fix release, then it will be easier to retire that branch
