Hello Craig,

some IDEs and IDE maven-plugin supports downloading the source and
javadoc artifact from the repository. You don't need to attach the
source and javadoc to the project anymore.

For example the maven-eclipse-plugin

generated with the javadoc:jar and source:jar goals.
