I will suggest to look at Compatibility.setFlushBeforeDetach(boolean).
Appropriate setting of this flag *may* itself be sufficient to address the
needs for JPA 2.0 clear() methods which dictates no flushing before detach()
while OpenJPA, by default, behaves otherwise.
If you decide to go by setFlushBeforeDetach(boolean) route, then consider
setting it in appropriate ProductDerivation (possibly with new versioning
capability of OpenJPAConfiguration.getSpecification() to ensure backward
compatibility).
