Hi Guy,
Dropping Java 5 support from the build process in OpenJPA 2.x was done for
several reasons. If you are interested in the whole discussion, check this
out...

http://openjpa.208410.n2.nabble.com/DISCUSS-Drop-build-support-for-Java-5-tc2539470.html

Main reasons -- EOL for Java 5 in Nov 2009, Annotation processor in Java 6,
and Performance improvements in Java 6. As you'll read, there were several
other arguments as well.

I doubt that you will get much support in reconsidering this decision. What
would be your reasons for requiring support for Java 5? If you wanted to
become a committer, you could always cut your own branch, make the required
changes to support Java 5, and then maintain it yourself. Or, you could do
this privately by downloading the current code base and maintaining the Java
5 environment in your own private repository...

Good luck,
Kevin
