I think from my previous posting it might not be quite clear what this
eval() thing was all about.

This is probably the reason why you are getting poor performance. And
this is the reason why Tim and Chris urged me to get rid of it, which
I did.

So hopefully, things are a dramatically faster now than with the old
eval() code. As I said, the Firebug profiler now shows no performance
differences between the gml-renderer.html example and
gml-layer-sld.html when zooming in once from the initial view. But of
course, there are only three features to check.

The first revision using the new rule evaluation code is r4746.
