the question is: are there (future) uses for that within the OpenLayers library? If yes, responseJSON is a very convenient way to handle JSON responses. If not, application devalopers will use the JSON parsers of the frameworks they are using anyway (like prototype, dojo, extjs or whatever). Just my 2ยข.
