Hi, the examples in http://www.openlayers.org/dev/ don't show the zoom bar any more (and probably don't show any images defined as background in theme/default/style.css), because after some server side pre-processing, the css file seems to be directly included in the html. This will cause the browser to look for relative image urls under examples/ instead of theme/default/.
