For anything that's already in OL SVN, you can create a copy of the doc, and put '.lang-code.rst' as the extension. (So, spherical_mercator.fr.rst.) If you want to translate the 'about' section as well, you can so, and save it as 'about.fr.rst'. (Since, at the moment, you don't have trunk SVN access, you can add these as patches, or put them into a sandbox and I'll merge in from there.) The docs.openlayers.org site doesn't handle this yet, but as soon as it's needed, I'll add it. I envision this being a sub-bullet list in the "Spherical Mercator" section, with the title/description/link being slightly smaller, and (obviously ;)) in French. > For example, if I want to upload rst file of the french translation of the > Tim's Workshop ... I think that we should maintain translated copies of docs in the same location as the source documentation unless there is a strong reason otherwise. So, I would say that either the french translation should be managed in the OpenGeo SVN (or if Tim prefers) we could move the OpenGeo workshop into the OL SVN. If neither of those works out, we can work out a solution with having them both in seperate SVN. > Christopher, can I translate this page [1] and add some information about > where to find help in french and write a call to contribute for translating > OL doc. I will probably link the call to the OSGeo-fr (Francophone mailing > list). Your [1] above is the wrong link... not sure which doc you mean. If you mean http://trac.openlayers.org/wiki/GettingHelp/ForeignLanguageSupport , then I should bring this up with the OL dev list and get a general feedback before we publish it too widely, but I'm happy to have you translate it at http://trac.openlayers.org/wiki/GettingHelp/ForeignLanguageSupport/fr -- I've deleted the text I had there before because it was terribly out of date :) I'm not sure if a 'call to translate' is best managed through that wikipage (which was originally written targeted towards people who *don't* know OpenLayers) or perhaps a different wiki page with "how to help the project if you don't code." Perhaps a somewhat less technical/more social version of http://trac.openlayers.org/wiki/HowToContribute is in order talking about our documentation efforts; or maybe just an update/expansion of http://trac.openlayers.org/wiki/Documentation . I'm interested in getting more of the existing OpenLayers documentation into SVN -- I was looking at some of your docs earlier and realizing that some of them seem more complete than what we have in English. Do you think you could share a summary of what you've got so far, and maybe suggest how we integrate this into OpenLayers SVN?
