All future releases of the standalone will have the option of demo data, only mvp dictionary, or empty db. All of these will be prepackaged so that load time is immediate.
Would that solve your need here? Is it slow on the update step or just the loading step? If its the update step, this will be "fixed" when we release a 1.9 version of the demo set. If it is the loading step, then yes, we should have a "smaller but full coverage demo set that only has 10 or so rows for every table". Create a ticket for that?
