Maven 2 supports a parameter of uniqueVersion, which when set to false in the POM does not deploy artifacts with timestamped file names. However, this will not stick around for Maven 3, as (from what I have found in my research) the thinking by the Maven team is that in theory anyone should be able to rebuild from any point in the development lifecycle (and thus, the necessity for many different snapshots with unique names). The "official" recommendation seems to be an external cleanup of the repository.
