Mykola, you're very welcome to join in the middle of a sprint. If
you're not familiar with a code base start with a simple ticket. Just
claim it. A good example is:

I'd generally ask you not to claim tickets with must or should
priority, if you don't feel like finishing them before the sprint
ends.

Ideally, you should attach a patch with your work a few days before
the sprint ends so that it can be reviewed (corrected if necessary)
and committed. This way your contribution will be visible really soon
in the next release of the module scheduled for Jan, 22nd :-)
Otherwise, it'll need to wait for another release, but your work is
still very much appreciated.
