Hello Everyone,

I am Shyam Shankar [OpenMRS id:
https://wiki.openmrs.org/display/~shyam057cs/] . I am a 3rd year, Computer
Science Engineering Undergraduate student from National Institute of
Technology,Calicut in India .I would like to participate in Google Summer
of Code 2012 as a Student Developer for OpenMRS.

While searching for suitable organizations in the GSoC program of previous
years , I came across OpenMRS and I was immediately attracted to its banner
"Write Code. Save Lives." I was very pleased to know that working with this
noble organization would not only satisfy my technical thirst but also
enable to make me feel good about myself too. :-)
I have been programming in Java for about 2 years now. My Java experience
includes developing 2 applications (and winning prizes for it) for MobMe
CodeJam( an Indian online programming contest -
http://codejam.mobme.in/results ) where the tasks were to build a spell
checker which after spell checking an input document gives appropriate
suggestions and and the second application was to record how an English
word is used real time in the internet ( a very basic
form)
(http://codejam.mobme.in/questions,contestnames:spell and idiom). The
spell-checker project and some of my other
projects can be found in https://github.com/shyam057cs.

I had already installed OpenMRS and also setup its Developer environment
for Ubuntu 10.10, but unfortunately had to reconfigure my system and have
installed Ubuntu 11.10 now. I am hoping to complete the installation and
setup the developer environment by this weekend and begin work with some
introductory tickets soon enough. I am truly excited to take part in this
project and I hope I can make a meaningful contribution to it.

Regards,
