Is it downloading the dependencies/libraries? In general with maven
projects there are a lot of downloads required. If you are new to maven or
new to that project, there are usually a lot of new jars that you haven't
downloaded. The good news is that once you have them for openmrs, any
other openmrs-related projects will have almost no other downloads
required, so checkouts will go faster.

There should be a status view for you to see what is happening. You can
turn off checking of dependency updates by default in the eclipse
preferences somewhere.
