I'm not using the standalone... I just used the standard installer checked 
"yes" for install demo data.  It then prompts you to set a new admin password, 
which I do, but then I can't log in with that.

The underlying issue, I believe, is that the scheduler username/password is set 
to admin/test, and the Reporting module (which comes bundled in the war) 
schedules a task to run every minute that attempts to authenticate with the 
admin/test password... this continually fails since the admin password has been 
changed, and, eventually, the admin user is locked out.

Are you running the standalone or are you using the 1.9 demo data from the demo 
data downloads page?

If yes to any of the above, I ran into this and i think the password for admin 
was changed from test, try Admin123, we need to  change it back to test
