as a part of a course assignment we are working on OpenNLP project. We will inspect one of the project's components and apply various software tools to improve Java code (e.g. FindBugs, ESC/Java2). Some time ago opennlp-maxent component was branched to opennlp-ml. Currently these components share most of their content. I would like to know what are plans for both branches. Will opennlp-ml be a replacement for opennlp-maxent? Which of them is going to be actively developed?
They are currently mostly the same, opennlp-maxent will be the one which is included in the next couple of releases. We planned to do a bigger refactoring and refreshment of our machine learning code, this effort will go into opennlp-ml and replaces opennlp-maxent one day. If you submit a patch to improve the code quality of the machine learning code it should be for opennlp-maxent. You are welcome to discuss with us the various improvements which could be done. Jörn
