Unfortunately, I have no easy solution at hand.
We fixed the same problem for the dmake option recently:

and it looks like the epm checks were copy-pasted (including comments
referring to dmake!) from the dmake ones. So it should be possible to
simply change the epm parts in configure.in by copying the changes done
to fix dmake.
Loh Kok Hoe: if you port the patch (should be rather easy, just work by
analogy) to epm, please create an issue in Bugzilla
https://issues.apache.org/ooo/ attaching the patch to it, assign it to
me (pescetti) and I'll test, review and commit it.
