Thanks for your input, actually, the same installation set has been used for both testing platforms (fedora based, debian based), and they include
the scripting framework.
I even tried to install the scripting framework manually in the debian based one to ensure it's there.
You haven't stated what version of OOo or scripting framework you have installed on either platform. If the OOo is 1.1.1 to 1.1.4, then you need framework v0.3. You must fully uninstall any previous version and close all OOo processes, even all user processes if using a -net installation, before installing the new one. You also need to make sure OOo is using a JRE version of 1.4.0_02 or later. If you still cannot create a FunctionProvider service, use the manual uninstall instructions to check that all the files and entries are actually installed. Unfortunately, I do not have a Debian installation, so I cannot verify this operation. I can verify that the scripting framework was not included in the 1.1.4 Windows OOo distribution, and after I had installed the 0.3 scripting framework I could then create a FunctionProvider service.
If the OOo is 1.9.x (pre-2.0), then your script will not work since the scripting framework API for that version has been completely changed. At least, that is what the documentation claims.
