Hi there

One of my colleagues has always been needing a formatting feature. Should be
fairly easy for a person with a build environment to add this feature.

In OO Calc there's a scientific format, but the engineering format is
missing.

Scientific format is given by
        M*10^E
where M is the mantissa and E is the integer exponent

Engineering format is given by
        EM*1000^(EE/3)
where EM is the Engineering Mantissa and EE is the Engineering Exponent,
which is a multiple of 3.

you would then be able to write 1244 by
        0.00EE+00
as
         1.24EE+03
and 12440 as
        12.44EE+03

You could also implement the SI prefix system - kilo (k), mega (M), giga
(G).... http://whatis.techtarget.com/definition/0,,sid9_gci499008,00.html )

which would allow the user to put in units like metres or ohms
        0.00SI"m" for a formatting of 1244 to 1.24km
        0.00SI"ohm" for a formatting of 1244 to 1.24kohm

PS. I'm not (yet) on the developing mailing list.

Sincerly
   Morten S. Nielsen
