After downloading the OOo 2.0 beta packages, I was impressed with the program, but the installer was slow, prone to errors, and (Microsoft's fault) just plain messy. I represent the Nullsoft Scriptable Install System, or NSIS, a free open-source install platform. NSIS allows for very advanced installations, and it provides a scripting platform that rivals even InstallShield and WISE Installer. I would like to write a new installer for the Windows version of OpenOffice.org. Some features that I would include are unattended installation, network installation, readme and license agreement features, multiple-language installation, and (above all) speed. If there are any additional features you want, they can probably be added. I will also use my own extension for NSIS, the ExperienceUI. The ExperienceUI (known commonly as the XPUI) allows creation of skinned installers that offer a theme based on the program being installed. I can create a customized theme for OpenOffice.org that includes images on the top, left, and bottom parts of the installer. The overhead is around 200KB for the complete installer, and it works under Windows 95 and later. The Windows Installer that you're using has a 2MB overhead, and it requires Windows 98 SE or later.
