Hmm.. GNU-cp.. wouldn't that be the GNU-version of the standard cp copying-program? .. I observed having a gcp in my path.. /usr/local/bin/gcp ... that might perhaps be what your looking for? .. perhaps if the configure-script thinks it's called gnu-cp you could most possibly fix the problem with a symbollic link..
Of course, if you don't even have gcp anywhere, I think you could just compile it from /usr/src/contrib or something.. Btw.. just what are you compiling here? OO.o?
