this night I voted for issue 7311. That's fine, but I am not sure if this will change the situation until the final release of OOo 2.0 is rolled out. As I don't believe in passive democracy at all, I ask you if it is possible to contribute active help -- and how.
This issue will not be fixed in OOo 2.0. We are waaaay beyond UI freeze and fixing that task requires a UI change.
My experiences: some years of hobby programming. No big deals, yet. Mostly Basic (VB, VBA) and scripting languages (PHP, JavaScript, ...) and a little C#, C and C++. I am not sure if I am the "tough guy" you need for this job :) but I am interested an willing to learn. So is anybody out there -- able to introduce me in the miraculous world of a huge project, notably OpenOffice?
See <http://contributing.openoffice.org/programming.html> for some initial resources. You need to sign the JCA first before you can contribute code.
For a UI change you need to start not with code, but with a specification (see http://specs.openoffice.org). Be sure to contact the current owner of the issue, if you really want to work on it.
