Hi Rohit and welcome to the community! :-)

To get you up to speed, what type of work are you interested in? Is there
any specific area that gets you fired up? There is a lot of interesting work
in OO.o for someone with your general background, so more specific
information might help everyone suggest more precise alternatives.

More specifically, once you have figured out what general part you are
interested in I suggest taking a look at the projects list:
http://projects.openoffice.org/accepted.html. When you find something cool
check out issuezilla to find issues related to that and/or contact the
project lead for more guidance in a specific area.

Good starting points are also the FreeNode IRC channels: #OpenOffice.org
and #go-oo.

And you can also fire emails to random community members who seem to be
working on something that interests you. :-)

Take care and stay in touch,

Kai

Hi,

I'd like to be a contributing member for the OpenOffice development. My
programming background includes C++ and Java. Can someone please help me get
started? I wasn't allowed to choose any role besides observer when I got to
the respective project pages.

Thanks for your help.
