So, obviously the Dev.Guide is non-free. I wouldn't say that OOo is
non-free because of this. In this sense, Debian can obviously
redistribute the OOo SDK without the Dev.Guide only.
That's what we do now but it still means repackaging the source since
What needs to be done to simplify this process?
That this stuff is free so I don't need to remove it? :)

you can submit issues with errors or completely new chapters and Sun
will integrate it in the guide. Ok the current license says that you
have to ask Sun before you do any changes. That's right and not optimal,
and that's the reason why we would like to change it.
We understand that some people would never help to improve the guide in
fact of this license (and probably never when it's open source either
way - that is my personal opinion).
If you are really interested in helping to improve the guide or to
distribute it with something drop me an email and i will check the legal
aspect and you will probably get the permission from Sun.
Read your own license statement again.

free but not open source yet ;-)
We simply don't want that people takes the guide, make a book from it
and sell it without permission from Sun. Probably the permission
wouldn't be a problem (not 100% sure) when the earnings from the book
goes back to OO.org project ;-)
