We've had this rule (to use spaces) for quite some time, it's just a bit difficult to find. It's mentioned in http://tools.openoffice.org/coding.html, which is no longer linked to (replaced with CodingGuidelines.sxw). In practice, for new code, the rule is mostly followed.
