I think both proposals are well done, the latter has some overlap with
"Improve UI design and Layout" (which focuses on auto layouting). But
the quality/applicability of the proposal is only one (first) step in
the GSoC ranking process - lacking applications or those that simply
don't fit into the project usually don't get a mentor in the first
place. Later on, when applications are voted upon, things like
visibility, user need (long-standing, highly voted issues), perceived
coolness etc. are what makes some applications being selected, and
others not.

No - the project specific mailing lists ([EMAIL PROTECTED], in your case) are
best suited.
