Hi all,

What is the interface of OOo? More specifically, when OOo is installed on a computer, what are the files from that installation that are either:

1 Intended to be executed directly by a client (human or program) to accomplish a certain task.

2 Intended to be registered (typically during installation) with the operating system or some other external framework, to be executed by the operating system or external framework upon certain events.

these are good questions, and I fear the answers are unclear and probably platform dependent. If we ever have the chance, we should clean this up.

Originally, the user data directory (e.g. ".openoffice") and the installations top level directory hold symbolic links (at least on Unix), to the files in the program directory, which were thought to be the public interface, so this is long ago and the links seem to have gone ... ;-)

I just skipped through the OOo 2.2 rpms, for whatever reasons, there seem not to be any system integrations. At least for SO there are some, integrating SO into the desktop by placing various mime types, menus and icons at appropriate places, and by placing some links in /usr/bin .

If we don't have any other clue, I suggest starting to actually define, what the file system interface is, by discussing your list and creating an appropriate spec may be in the wiki.
