Dennis,
OOo is organized into so called "accepted projects" (please see
http://projects.openoffice.org/index.html).
You may find the project dealing with OOos GUI here:
http://ux.openoffice.org
respectively the appropriate mailing lists:
http://ux.openoffice.org/servlets/ProjectMailingListList
The project dealing with documentation in general can be found here:
http://documentation.openoffice.org/
respectively the appropriate mailing lists:
http://documentation.openoffice.org/servlets/ProjectMailingListList
Hope that helps

I write to you with interest in contributing to clarification of the text of
the user interface for OpenOffice.org.
Over the years, I have used this software (in Mac X11, no less) quite a bit.
I continually find that the Help Guide is strong. However, I often find
myself wanting to rewrite the text in dialog boxes and preference panes so
that it is more grammatical, orienting, and consistent. Of course, a
stronger interface attracts more usersā¹and it makes documentation less
necessary (and also less challenging work).
A little about me... I recently left a role as Director of Training and
Professional Development for a major education curriculum publisher in which
I oversaw the writing of clear, concise, layout-oriented text using simple
language, aimed at helping people get up and running with programs
(software, online, and print curriculum, all academic subjects). I also have
worked in web design and music publishing, focusing mostly on user interface
and experience.
Please let me know where I can next turn to contribute in this area of OOo
development.
Best,
