What you wrote is an argument against automated regression tests on CWSs . If we are not able to detect regression on whatever workspace (MWS/CWS), we don't even need to think about it.
I do not understand your points here. I give an example where all test mechanism we have were not working. This is two CWS and not all! But do not forget, we found a lot of regressions in these CWS with the automated testing, but not all!
But don't make everything mandatory. If I change a string in the setup or change platform dependend code for systemintegration I don't want to do a mandatory test that tests whether all dialogs in the Calc still work.
The QA will and have to do the mandatory tests for each CWS. Most of the CWS need the testing, if one doesn't need it, why not running the test also? You do not have to wait for the tests, in the case you do not have checked in any regression, you will never see a problem and you do not think about the time the tests needs for running.
