FYI, just created
<http://wiki.services.openoffice.org/wiki/DynamicLibrarySearchPaths> to
collect information why some OOo scripts set LD_LIBRARY_PATH (or its
equivalent on other platforms). Feel free to add your findings there.

other people's take on the merits of LD_LIBRARY_PATH.
