www.openoffice.org/issues/show_bug.cgi?id=17171 is a bug which causes data loss in long documents, fairly commonly experienced and with lots of votes. It's marked as P3 with target OOo Later (meaning never). It blocks www.openoffice.org/issues/show_bug.cgi?id=59185 which is another data loss bug marked as P3 with target OOo 3.x (which is a bit inconsistent even though it means almost never).

- Should not these bugs be P2?
- Although 17171 is fairly self-evidently likely to be very difficult to fix, in itself that doesn't seem to be a reason for the delay

In what forum can those who feel frustrated about this ask for triage to review whether or not the current priorities and targets are reasonable, considering the severity of the issues?

Since this is my first post to this list, perhaps I should briefly introduce myself. I have more than 40 years professional IT experience from assembly programming to consultancy, with in-depth experience of PCs and desktop applications. For some time I have been doing OOo QA work, though not very intensively. I am primarily interested in helping to make OpenOffice better for inexperienced end users, so usability and the absence of fundamental restrictions like these bug are the kinds of things I focus on.
