Hmm, you're right.

Which means we can either have the current behavior - you cannot store
files with extensions not foreseen by the problem -, or the old behavior
where file names with dots where crippled.

Sounds like the decision to remove the box was perhaps ... premature?
With the check box, we had the second problem, but could prevent it.
Without the box, we have the first problem, but cannot prevent it
anymore. :(


One idea might be to separate the information which today is collected
in the filters: That is, if you select e.g. the "Text (.txt)" filter,
then this implies a) your file will be stored as plain text and b) your
file will automatically get the extension .txt.
Separating this in the UI could solve the problem. However, I think it's
hard to come up with something which really provides a good user
experience here.
