The intrinsic function of context menu -> Caption is nothing else than
inserting a paragraph before/behind the table as specified in the
caption dialog.
There exists no relation between this paragraph and the table says, that
the paragraph is the caption for a certain table.
Thus, I think it will be no problem for you to insert such a paragraph
into the text document. The only special thing about this paragraph is
that it contains a number range field for tables.
