does someone else know what to do with this? ---------- Forwarded message ---------- From: Jaimie Bradbury <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Date: Mon, Jun 30, 2008 at 11:42 AM Subject: Re: GIS datasets for openstreetmap.org To: Adam Layne <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>
The data distribution website for Mt. Hood NF GIS data was recently revamped, and GIS data in its new projection and format have not been placed on the revamped web site yet. Current data requests are being filled by placing ArcInfo .e00 interchange files or Zipped shapefiles on our anonymous FTP site. I would need to know specifically which data you are requesting. Some of our datasets such as roads and trails are currently under major revisions. The website you mention below does include base map data for published Forest Service 1:24000 maps or Alaska 1:63360 maps. This includes all Forests, all States. The following excerpt is from a link on the FSGeodata Clearinghouse homepage (http://199.141.1.21/clearinghouse/index.html) under Vector Data, about... Cartographic Feature Files -- CFFs include: roads and trails, streams, water bodies, political and administrative boundaries, land ownership, and constructed features. CFFs contain the vector representation of the point and line features shown on published Forest Service 1:24000 maps (except Alaska which are 1:63,360 maps). Elevation contours, vegetation, and text (geographic names, labels, etc.) are not included in the CFF. Note, these maps are revised and published on a cyclical basis and may not reflect current conditions. See the associated metadata files for complete information. The CFF data does not necessarily contain the same information as in Forest Service GIS databases maintained by individual National Forests and Grasslands. If you want to download local GIS data from each Forest where it is available, you can visit the WWW websites for each Forest and check for GIS links, usually under the Maps & Brochures main menu item on the left. http://www.fs.fed.us/ Jaimie L. Hood National Forest. If you could provide me with a link to the data, we could import it soon. We can only accept data that is in the public domain, or that has copyright compatible with the OpenStreetMap License. Someone else on the project identified http://svinetfc4.fs.fed.us/vectorgateway/index.html as a potential datasource, is your information included in this data? Also, if you could point me to a source for data for other states and forests, that would be fantastic. Thank you for your time, Adam Layne
