Do you want to create a top level "branch" folder or inside the merkaartor subdir? It might make more sense to have it in the subdir and only for the subdirs that require it? i.e. put everything in applications/editors/merkaartor into applications/editors/merkaartor/trunk and create a new applications/editors/merkaartor/branch or so.
