IMHO, yes, absolutely. But start it slowly so that if there are problems they can be noticed and corrected early on. I would import all the data and make a map of progress and problem areas. E.g. where it finds there are buildings already, tag the ones you import with possible_building instead of building and add a FIXME tag, then draw a map that highlights all the possible_buildings in red, like the coastlines map does for bad coastlines. Then people can go and fix them, e.g. taking the tagging of the original building and the outline of the new import or vice versa.
