What exactly is a "Remote Test Unit"? A full-fledged laptop? A small netbook? A PDA? A fancy cellphone? A bunch of microcontrollers with a LCD screen? Do the "Remote Test Units" have an integrated or pluggable GPS? Do they have 4GB, 20GB, 160GB of storage? Depending on your platform, there will be different solutions.
