Hello all, I am one of the students who have been accepted in GSOC 2009 programme on behalf of OSM. Since the first period (community bonding) has passed a week ago I feel like it would be nice to give you an update om my work. As the work that needs to be accomplished for this app is huge I will not be too active on the mailing lists, but I will provide updates regularly.
I was actively developing this app before getting in GSOC, so for the first period (April 15th - May 23rd) my proposal was to finish the folowing tasks: - work on the issues I have right now with rendering the labels - create basic UI interface: buttons for zoom in/out, future navigation buttons - optimize rendering code I spent a lot of time developing and I managed to accomplish all the tasks mentioned above and some other tasks that were proposed for the second period (May 23rd - July 6th) like: - work on basic routing algorithm - searching engine available I just recorded a small demo on the emulator that describes the current functionalities, and I made it public on Youtube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pv_eMF8xkMg. Please have a look and tell me what you think. The application code will soon be pushed (I had to spend some time to clean up and reorganize the code before I considered it good enough) to the Google Code project I have created http://code.google.com/p/osm-android/ and then everybody can give it a try and see how it works on the emulator. Feedback is welcome! My focus on the next period (until the mid term evaluations) will be on thoroughly testing the renderer and the basic routing algorithm and increasing performace where possible. I will also like to work on a layout that can provide more information about the calculated route, like the total distance, the estimated time and some other like the current position, the current speed and so on. Regards, Iulian Banaga
