At the moment we haven't got that sorted - this weekend was mainly about i18n (rather then the l10n). Shaun has been looking at launchpad and .po files and how to string everything together to make it straightforward for translators. So we'll hopefully come to a working alternative to just bare-bones editing of the .yml files for the longer term, and if anyone has suggestions or wants to try things out then go for it.
