Why not add the coordinates display to the "Where am I" function above the search on the main page of openstreetmap.org ?

Hi,

Ushahidi, and others, are geocoding reports via OpenStreetMap. We want
this to be as easy and accurate for them as possible. GetLatLon
(http://www.getlatlon.com/) is a nice little site to do this, but uses
Google Maps. Would someone be able to clone the site to use OSM,
centered on Haiti?

has a coordinate display in the lower right. On www.openstreetmap.org
you can easily draw up and measure a rectangle when you go to the
"export" tab. The Geofabrik map site,
http://tools.geofabrik.de/map/?type=Geofabrik&lon=-72.32060&lat=18.56929&zoom=12,
not only has a coordinate display but you can also click on the "+"
button in the lower right to see the borders of the map extent currently
displayed.

None of these is the one-stop shop you were looking for though.
(Coordinate display on www.openstreetmap.org has been suggested by some,
but was shot down because others felt it would only confuse the
geo-illiterate users).
