There is a "geocoding" mailing list which might be better suited to questions that regard running Nominatim; but the list has such low volume that I had zero responses to a similar question I asked there a while ago ;)
2 TB is certainly more than *my* Nominatim instances need (see http://lists.openstreetmap.org/pipermail/geocoding/2011-May/000194.html).
