Sounds interesting. But keep in mind, that some parts of mapnik can not be used by all platforms. For example, my Windows Distribution does not support cairo. The documentation should point out which OS/python/postgres/postgis Version is used.
On the German board, we just experienced that my documented configuration does not work, because the default.style of mapnik has been expanded recently, but the one supplied with the osm2pgsql windows binary is not.
